RakworX Aisle Containment and Air Management

RakworX aisle containment and air management products, including small-chamber containment add-ons and air dams, create physical barriers that stop hot exhaust and cold supply air from mixing in the data center. They improve cooling efficiency, reduce hotspots, and lower energy use, and their universal design retrofits to existing RakworX or other-manufacturer cabinets in 42U to 52U sizes. Comp-Utility supplies and installs RakworX air management across Central Texas.

Stop the Mixing

Keep Hot and Cold Air Apart

Containment works by putting a physical barrier between the hot and cold aisles so the two air streams cannot mix. That keeps cool air at equipment intakes and routes hot exhaust back to the cooling units, which reduces hotspots and lets the cooling plant run more efficiently for the same result.

RakworX small-chamber containment is an add-on for 42U to 52U cabinets, and the universal design means it can retrofit to your existing cabinets, including other manufacturers' enclosures, without replacing what you already own.

RakworX Aisle Containment and Air Management: Keep Hot and Cold Air Apart

Efficiency and Uptime

Lower Energy Use and Reduce Downtime Risk

By preventing hot and cold air from mixing, containment reduces wasted cooling and lowers operational cost, while a more consistent temperature environment helps extend equipment life and reduces the risk of overheating and unplanned downtime.

Air dams and blanking panels add the finishing seal, closing open U-space and side gaps so air does not bypass equipment. The result scales cleanly as you reconfigure cabinets, without compromising cooling performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is aisle containment in a data center?

Aisle containment is the practice of using physical barriers, panels, doors, ceilings, or chimney ducts, to separate hot exhaust air from cold supply air in a data center. Keeping the two streams apart prevents hot air from recirculating into equipment intakes, which improves cooling efficiency and reduces hotspots. RakworX air management products provide that containment as add-ons to existing or new cabinets.

Can RakworX containment retrofit to my existing cabinets?

Yes. RakworX air management is built around a universal design so it can retrofit to existing cabinets, including enclosures from other manufacturers, in 42U to 52U sizes. That means you can improve airflow in your current room without replacing cabinets. Comp-Utility assesses your existing equipment and specifies the containment and air dams that fit.

What is an air dam and what does it do?

An air dam is a barrier that closes the gaps inside and around a cabinet so cool air is channeled to equipment intakes instead of leaking past them or mixing with hot exhaust. Together with blanking panels for empty U-space, air dams stop air bypass, which sharpens the temperature difference the cooling system works with and reduces hotspots. They are an easy, low-cost airflow upgrade.

How does containment save energy?

When hot and cold air mix, the cooling system has to overcool the room to keep intakes within range, which wastes energy. Containment stops that mixing, so the cooling plant can run at higher, more efficient set points and move less air for the same result. Lower cooling effort means lower energy cost, and a more stable temperature environment also extends equipment life.

Does containment reduce downtime risk?

Yes. By eliminating hotspots and maintaining a consistent temperature across the cabinets, containment reduces the chance of equipment overheating and the failures or throttling that follow. A more predictable thermal environment means fewer thermal alarms and less risk of unplanned downtime. Comp-Utility designs the containment so it addresses your specific hot spots rather than applying a generic fix.

What is the difference between containment and a vertical exhaust duct?

Both keep hot and cold air apart, but they do it differently. Aisle containment and air dams seal the aisle and cabinet so the two air streams cannot mix in the room. A vertical exhaust duct (chimney), like the RakworX VED, ducts each cabinet's hot exhaust straight up into a ceiling return. They are complementary, and Comp-Utility selects or combines them based on your room and cooling design.

Does containment scale as I add or move cabinets?

Yes. RakworX air management is modular and tool-less in design, so it supports easier scaling and reconfiguration as you add cabinets or change the layout, without compromising cooling performance. Comp-Utility plans the containment so it can grow with the room and stays effective as the deployment changes.
