Schneider NetShelter Rack PDUs: Basic to Switched

Schneider Electric APC NetShelter rack PDUs distribute power to data center racks in basic, metered, metered-by-outlet, and switched configurations, in single-phase and three-phase from 16 to 60A across 120/208/230/415V. They range from simple distribution to outlet-level metering and remote switching for capacity planning and lights-out management. Comp-Utility, a long-standing Schneider distribution partner, specs and deploys NetShelter PDUs across Central Texas.

Visibility and Control

From Basic Distribution to Outlet-Level Intelligence

Rack PDUs are where power meets your equipment. Basic units distribute reliably, metered units help balance circuits, metered-by-outlet units give per-device visibility for capacity planning and billing, and switched units add remote outlet control and reboot for lights-out sites.

Comp-Utility specifies the right intelligence level for each rack so you get the visibility you need without overpaying where you do not.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of NetShelter rack PDUs are available?

NetShelter rack PDUs come in basic, metered (inlet), metered-by-outlet, switched, and switched metered-by-outlet versions, in single-phase and three-phase from 16 to 60A. Basic units distribute power, metered units help balance load, metered-by-outlet units provide per-device data, and switched units add remote outlet control. Comp-Utility helps you pick the right type per rack.

What is the difference between metered and switched PDUs?

Metered PDUs measure power (at the inlet or per outlet) so you can balance circuits and plan capacity, but do not control outlets. Switched PDUs add remote on/off and sequencing of individual outlets, enabling remote reboot of hung equipment and lights-out management. Switched metered-by-outlet units combine both metering and control.

How do I size a rack PDU?

Sizing is based on the total rack load, the phase and voltage of your distribution, required outlet types and counts, and headroom for growth. You also plan for A/B redundant feeds where dual-corded equipment requires it. Comp-Utility calculates rack load and specifies the amperage, phase, and outlet configuration for each cabinet.

What does outlet-level monitoring enable?

Outlet-level (metered-by-outlet) monitoring reports power consumption for each device, which supports accurate capacity planning, stranded-power recovery, and per-tenant billing in colocation. It also helps identify which equipment draws the most power. Comp-Utility integrates this data with DCIM so you can manage capacity at the rack and outlet level.

Can switched PDUs reboot servers remotely?

Yes. Switched PDUs allow remote on/off control of individual outlets, so you can power-cycle a hung server or device without sending someone on-site. This is especially valuable for remote and edge locations. Comp-Utility deploys switched PDUs with network management configured for secure remote access.

How do PDUs support A/B redundant power?

Dual-corded equipment is fed from two independent PDUs on separate power paths (A and B), so the load continues if one path is lost. For single-corded equipment, an ATS PDU can provide dual-source resilience. Comp-Utility designs the A/B distribution and selects the right PDUs to meet your redundancy requirements.

Do NetShelter PDUs integrate with DCIM?

Yes. Intelligent NetShelter PDUs report data over the network and integrate with DCIM platforms, including Schneider EcoStruxure, for per-rack and per-outlet power monitoring, capacity planning, and alerting. Comp-Utility configures the PDUs and integrates them with your monitoring environment during deployment.
